Latest insolvency statistics

The latest quarterly Insolvency Statistics were released on 30 April 2019. This is the first time that these statistics have been produced separately for Company Insolvencies and Personal Insolvency.

The personal Insolvencies, which include Bankruptcies, Individual Voluntary Arrangements(IVAs) and Debt Relief Orders(DROs), fell from an 8 year high from the last quarters statistics. This was largely due to a decrease in the number of IVAs although bankruptcies and DROs fell slightly from the previous quarter. Total personal insolvencies in the first quarter of 2019 were the second highest since the third quarter of 2010.

The Company insolvencies, which include Compulsory Liquidation, Creditors Voluntary Liquidation(CVLs), Administrations, Company Voluntary Arrangements(CVAs) and Administrative Receiverships, were 6.3% higher than in the previous quarters figures. Compared to the same time last year this is an increase of 5.1% and is the second highest underlying level of insolvencies in any quarter since the first quarter of 2014. The rise was mainly attributable to an increase in CVLs , Administrations and CVAs.
